A New Salishan Resort
Salishan Resort in Gleneden Beach has new owners as of January 1st, 2018 and the local community is beyond excited.
The Iconic Oregon Coast resort which has been in operation since 1965 has seen many ownership and management styles in the last 50 years. Remodels and Revisions have slightly altered John Gray's 'Crown of the Coast' vision he set forward in 1961. Salishan is still regarded as an exclusive resort which offers world class golfing, spa, dining, conference center, and an impressive wine cellar. Changes over the years have had many feeling the original vision started to dissipate - big changes occurred in 1996, when John Gray sold. Since then the resort has changed hands a few time. The lodge recently sold for $16.1 million in October and not too much has been released about the new owners. Team Home Oregon Coast wanted to buy it, but were only about $16.3 million short!
So what's next?
Rumors of course, are locally circulating about what will come of the beautiful property. We know what we would like to see done and can't wait to see the new owner's vision come to fruition. Will there be any additions to the housing communities in the residential hills, condo ownerships, vacation rentals, expansion of golf course or other recreation? Maybe we'll get another brewery in the area! We could even see an expansion to the Shops at Salishan and an anchor store... or any other endless options. These are some of the cool ideas we've been dreaming of! We have heard whispers of other awesome ideas as well in the community, but nothing official from the new owners yet. Everyone is just excited and hoping for the best.
Salishan has been, and will continue to be, a staple to the Central Oregon Coast economy. When Salishan does well, so do other shops and restaurants in the North Lincoln County area. We are optimistic that new ownership and management will bring new ideas, invest in renovations, put many locals to work, and renew the vision John Gray had when he built Salishan in the 1960's.
