Yachats (pronounced YAH-hots) comes from the Chinook Indian word, Yahuts, signifying “dull waters at the foot of the mountain.” Nestled between the rich forested mountains of the Coast Range and the Pacific Ocean’s lapping waves, Yachats is the perfect spot for rest, relaxation, and fun. The calm, unhurried environment of this little resort town offers vacationers an exciting option in contrast to the hustle of city life and the indifferent nature of a vast beach coastal community.

Things to Do

In case you’re visiting and staying in Yachats or nearby Waldport, you’re in the best spot for outdoor recreation on Oregon’s Central Coast. Miles of trails – some of which are wheelchair accessible  – take climbers and cyclists through the delightful old-development woodlands covering the area. Remember your camera for the fantastic views of the sea and landscapes. Crabbing and fishing are other mainstream activities in Yachats and Waldport. Popular outdoor locations include the Cape Perpetua State Scenic Area, Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Viewpoint, Seal Rock State Recreation Site, Driftwood Beach State Recreation Site, and Yachats State Recreation Area.
